2007-10-23 [Sharky87]: oooo!!!Sounds interesting! :D
2007-10-23 [Linderel]: ^___^
2007-10-23 [Sharky87]: I wanna try this!! WEE!! :D XD
2007-10-23 [Vou]: So do I. :O
2007-10-23 [Vou]: But, I'm kinda confused. C:
2007-10-23 [Linderel]: About what, pray tell? :3
2007-10-23 [Jitter]: Awesome :O
Can I enter something I just finished? <_<;
2007-10-23 [Linderel]: As long as it fits a prompt, I suppose so. :P
2007-10-23 [Jitter]: It does :3 *picks Angel for 'Angel of Music'* x)
2007-10-23 [Linderel]: Yay <3
2007-10-24 [Synsae]: hmmmm, think I will get into this contest...
2007-10-24 [Cia_mar]: interesting contest! count me in!!!!!
2007-10-24 [sequeena_rae]: *lurks*
2007-10-24 [Linderel]: Yay Squee! *hump*
2007-10-24 [sequeena_rae]: *hump* I really hope I get to do something for this seeing as I missed your tree contest :( *sigh*
2007-10-24 [Linderel]: Yes, you must D:
On another note, yay xD Finally got to use the table feature.
2007-10-24 [sequeena_rae]: I will, promise <3
Yay :D
2007-10-25 [Tingis]: I don't have a scanner, nowhere :S is it horrible when I take a picture from it? and how do I upload pictures to elftown? :$
2007-10-25 [Jitter]: See How do i upload art, img and Photographing Art
2007-10-25 [Tingis]: thanks! ^^
2007-10-25 [Jitter]: Welcome :)
2007-10-26 [Vou]: So... as long as it fits the prompt theme thingie, it can be put up? Such as kink... that could have a picture of a character in chains? Oo;;
2007-10-26 [Linderel]: Sure. :P
Of course I would prefer newly made entries, but I'm not too uptight on that.
2007-10-28 [hannes]: whee, this sounds good..:D
2007-10-31 [Jitter]: http://elftown
2007-10-31 [Linderel]: I think it might. :3
2007-10-31 [Jitter]: wee ^_^
2007-10-31 [Tingis]: i want to enter ^^ it would be my first contest
2007-10-31 [Tingis]: now Jitter has got 'angel', can I use it too, or not?
2007-10-31 [Linderel]: Anyone can take any prompt they want - there is no claiming. :)
2007-10-31 [Tingis]: wheee!
2007-11-04 [Easterling]: When was the deadline?.....
2007-11-04 [Linderel]: There is no deadline as of yet :P
2007-11-04 [Easterling]: Ok. Just liked to know. :)
2007-11-07 [Tingis]: it doesn't have to be coloured? and I can enter 3 illustrative drawings?
2007-11-07 [Linderel]: Nay and aye, respectively.
2007-11-09 [Tingis]:
2007-11-13 [Tingis]: i can't cut out my white scanning-backg
2007-11-13 [Linderel]: What is locked? The file? You don't have permissions to edit it?
2007-11-13 [Tingis]: yeah I make a second layer, to select the part I want to delete to make it transparant, and it says the layer is locked (the original one) :S
2007-11-13 [Triola]: Could you take a screen shot of the problem and show us, perhaps?
2007-11-13 [Tingis]: that won't show my problem =S thanks anyway.
isn't anyone here who regularly works with photoshop and knows how to un-lock the layer? or do I have to do it in illustrator? :O
2007-11-13 [Triola]: I regularly work with photoshop, and I have no clue what you mean or what you're trying to do, therefore I suggested the screen shot :P If you mean the background layer, you can usually make it into a regular layer by right-clicking it and choosing "Layer from Background", and if it's a regular layer that is locked, it usually helps to click the black lock above it, but as I didn't understand what you meant, I'm not sure either of those would help :/ sorry.
2007-11-13 [Tingis]: okay, i'll remember that next time, now a friend of mine has cut the picture for me! :D thanks!!
2007-11-13 [Tingis]: aah shit, I guess to have a transparant effect I should have made the background elftown-green.
2007-11-13 [Linderel]: Elftown green wouldn't work for me, I use my own stylesheet. :P
2008-01-04 [itoe]: To get the transparent background from photoshop, you need to have an empty background (with the white and gray checked pattern) and use the "save for web" option and save as a GIF image preserving the transparency.
2008-01-04 [Tingis]: cool!
2008-01-07 [Skydancer]: Or better, save it as a PNG file using the save for web which gives a much higher quality image. :) and be sure to check the use transparency box when you save it.
2008-01-07 [Yncke]: How do I make transparent images? contains a bit of information about png versus gif.
2008-01-07 [Skydancer]: Thank you [Yncke], I knew I had seen a page on it, but could not locate it again. :)
2008-01-07 [Imperator]: Is "error" taken yet? Or am I being stupid because any number of people can use any prompt?
2008-01-07 [Linderel]: Any number of people can use any prompt. :)
2008-01-08 [Imperator]: Okay, one more question; this isn't an official contest, right?
2008-01-09 [Linderel]: Does it look like an official contest to you? xD
So, that would be a no.
2008-01-09 [Linderel]: Yes, part of my genius, as it were. :P
2008-01-09 [Triola]: Indeed :P But your genius is defect, it should be attracting more contestants! *pokes genius* :P
2008-01-09 [Linderel]: I knooooowww ;_;
I'm trying to figure out what to do about it. One thing could be having everyone who has thus far participated (or become interested) advertise in their mood/diary/des
2008-01-09 [Triola]: Perhaps as the deadline comes closer, more people will see it on the Mainstreet as well :)
2008-01-09 [Linderel]: Yah, very possible.
2008-01-09 [Triola]: But the writing part might be a lost cause :/
2008-01-09 [Linderel]: Quite true. Unfortunately the writers of Elftown don't seem to care much for private competitions for some reason. I'll still keep the section open in the hopes that by some miracle I will get enough entries to have at least one winner.
In fact, why don't you uncork it? :3
2008-01-09 [Triola]: Hmmm... I suppose I could try... I have an entry to go, and it might as well be in the writing part, I suppose :P I'll see what I can come up with
2008-01-09 [Linderel]: Yaaaay! *slobber*
2008-01-09 [Tingis]: I have exams now, so after them, in the beginning of february I'll make some more entries :) how many prompts can we pick?
2008-01-09 [Linderel]: You can use as many prompts as you like, but only in three entries.
2008-01-09 [Tingis]: only in three entries...? *feels dumb*
2008-01-09 [Linderel]: You may submit three entries, in each entry using as many prompts as you like. It's up to you how you distribute them. You could only use one prompt to do all three entries for all I care.
2008-01-09 [Tingis]: Uhhh, so you can have three entries about ONE prompt, and in one entry use more than one prompt? :O
2008-01-09 [Linderel]: Yes. Entirely up to you. ;3
2008-01-09 [Imperator]: Wow, lol. Are you going to make something cool for us to put in our house if we win?
2008-01-09 [Linderel]: ...did you read the text up there? :P
2008-01-09 [sequeena_rae]: I don't think anyone does XD
2008-01-09 [Linderel]: *goes sulk*
2008-01-09 [sequeena_rae]: I did *huggles* :p
2008-01-09 [Linderel]: Well, that makes one at least. xP *snuggle*
2008-01-09 [Jitter]: I read it too :3
2008-01-09 [Linderel]: Yay. :3
2008-01-10 [Imperator]: Oh, right. I also read it but the information must have gotten lost in the vast space of my brain... heh heh...
2008-01-23 [Lite]: If you took a pic and only altered the color balance, would it go under photo, or photomanip?
2008-01-23 [Linderel]: Photo. :)
2008-02-15 [Goldenettes_Girl]: Sorry for the English major shining through, but jewelry's only got one 'l'.
2008-02-15 [Linderel]: Not in the British spelling. ;)
2008-02-15 [Imperator]: Well why don't you conform to supreme America already?! :p
2008-02-15 [Linderel]: Because British spelling is prettier. Besides, why should I?
2008-02-15 [Imperator]: Prettier? It's also more confusing. Color/Colour Which one is simpler? And because America is supreme. :p jk
2008-02-15 [sequeena_rae]: Confusing? America is the one that tore up the spelling in the first place so I'd say American spelling is confusing xP
Color looks wrong. It's like someone who can't be bothered to pronounce their words -_-
And prettier my arse :P
2008-02-15 [Imperator]: "Color" looks wrong to you but "colour" looks wrong to me. Duh! :p
2008-02-15 [sequeena_rae]: *shrug* Color looks like someone was trying to say colon :D
2008-02-15 [Yncke]: Look, all you native English speakers, as long as you don't have a committee defining the spelling through a book that is changed every five years to keep underlining their importance like all decent languages, any kind of English is nothing more than a dialect. :P
2008-02-15 [sequeena_rae]: shush you xD
2008-02-15 [Jitter]: I also believe British spelling is prettier :P American spelling is only nice when I'm writing a text message and can't be arsed to put an extra letter in ;p xD
Languages aren't supposed to be simple, the word "colour" came in first so they must have a reason for putting that 'u' in there ;)
2008-02-15 [Imperator]: Actually, no they didn't. That's why it was dropped in American english. :-)
2008-02-15 [Yncke]: Well. Then I think cghollourr is even better, especially for Scrabble. :P
2008-02-15 [Jitter]: Nah you Americans are just lazy :p
2008-02-15 [Cia_mar]: this is so like my talk with [Remos Page] about the word "aluminum" i pronounce it with 4 syllables adn i thought he was saying it wrong cuz he uses 5 syllables .. but then when he spelled it,.,, it was "aliminium"
i looked it up adn saw that it was the original spelling and the reason was that when they named the substance it was named following the traditional spelling of things like "uranium".... so the "ium" was right...
personally, i think it matters not... it is just fun to point out differances in spelling.. but not to say one is better than the other, but more from the academic side of "wow! how neat, look how this word originated!!!"
ok that is all...lol
2008-02-15 [Jitter]: It's "Alouminio" in Greek(lish) so Aluminium sounds correct :P
2008-02-15 [Cia_mar]: yes, that is the other consideration, what is the root of the word,.,., greek, latin...celtic
2008-02-15 [Jitter]: I think it's Latin to be honest :)
2008-02-15 [Cia_mar]: some of the newer words are... but in consideration of things like the greeting "how are you?" "ciamar a tha thu?" ... yes there is alot of latin influencing the language after a certain point, but it is not the base or source language...
only after rome made its way to gaul, britain and the island of ierne, did their languge influence the celts...
those of gaul were influenced more, only because they also had trade with those that came to the costs...
anyway,,, it hs been along time since i hve studied up on that... but as with all language, we all had our beginnings at bable/...lol
2008-02-15 [Imperator]: I like how the comment section of a contest has become an academic discussion on language. :p
2008-02-16 [Cia_mar]: well it is better than some of the comment sections that are arguments or people slamming others...lol..
i actually have some things in the elftown academy for learning gaelic...thoug
2008-02-16 [Yncke]: I am curious how it is done in English. I mean, in Dutch, it is written the way it is done in 'Het Groene Boekje' (the little green book), everything else is wrong (with some discussion about words written differently in the Van Dale, which is the leading dictionary). But at school somewhere in the USA, when you write 'colour' in a test, do you lose a point? And based on what authority, exactly?
2008-02-16 [Jitter]: When I sat the exam for my Proficiency Certificate from Michigan Uni we had to use American Vocabulary and spelling, when I sat my Cambridge Certificate Exam if we used Americanisms it was points minus, so I guess it must be the same for schools.
2008-02-16 [Yncke]: Okay, but is there an official definition of for example 'British English'?
2008-02-16 [Jitter]: From what I can remember (apart from the s vs z in verbs and 'ou ' vs 'u' etc) some words like "busted" are totally American and wouldn't be accepted in a composition in the British Exam I took :)
Most I know are from experience though :)
2008-02-16 [sequeena_rae]: Hah, you should see the crap they're letting into British exams now, it makes me sad :(
And you lot talk a lot in one night :P The English language has been influenced by many other languages, because nearly every bastard invaded us xD
2008-02-16 [Yncke]: But did they conquer you? I think that's an important difference.
2008-02-16 [sequeena_rae]: Um...Yes :P
2008-02-16 [Imperator]: He he he! The only invaders of Britain I can think of are the Saxons and Vikings though...
2008-02-16 [sequeena_rae]: William The Conquerer, hello? xP
2008-02-16 [Linderel]: I think this really should move somewhere else xD
Not that it isn't interesting, but if someone asks a question about the contest, it may drown :P
2008-02-16 [sequeena_rae]: Junk! :D
2008-02-16 [Imperator]: I'm shocked! This is not junk! This is a scholarly discussion. If it needs to be moved anywhere it should be the Elftown Academy...
2008-02-21 [sequeena_rae]: Right, whatever. If you're not part of junk don't knock it :P
2008-02-21 [Imperator]: ?Que?
2008-02-21 [sequeena_rae]: Junk as in the junk forum :P
2008-02-21 [Imperator]: I don't get the phrase "don't knock it"...
2008-02-21 [sequeena_rae]: Oh, don't hate something until you've tried it :P
2008-02-21 [Imperator]: I'm still confused so I'll try your idea and just agree with you: "You're absolutely right!"
2008-02-21 [sequeena_rae]: Haha :p It's just part of my dialect XP
2008-02-21 [Imperator]: Which dialect would this be? :p
2008-02-21 [sequeena_rae]: Any dialect I choose to use? :p (and we really should stop clogging up this page).
2008-02-21 [Imperator]: But clogging is good... :-(
2008-02-21 [sequeena_rae]: No it's not, let's continue this in general debate. If you don't I'll err...ban you o.O
2008-02-21 [Linn Scarlett]: William was an inthecloset Viking :p he was part of the vikings and took over normandiƫ (French coastal area :3) and desided his ego didn't quite fit with his small empire, and needed england as well. And he pwned ;)
2008-02-21 [Linn Scarlett]: Oh and about the writting entries, I have a habit of letting 'outside england' characters speak with typed accents of their respective language. Like french throwing in some of their own language and vague sentence constructions, and germans messing up the times ^_^ And scottish... well, yeah :p
2008-02-28 [Vou]: I have a drawing done, but it needs to be uploaded. It'll be put up later on today, Lami. <3
2008-02-28 [Tingis]: oh no, uhm, the deadline is tomorrow, can I enter the whole day tomorrow too??
2008-02-28 [sequeena_rae]: Of course! Well, until Lami closes it anyway :P
2008-02-28 [Linderel]: It will be closed at midnight, so yes, you have a whole day to submit. I always close at midnight - or the next morning. Depends.
2008-03-01 [Linderel]: The contest is now closed. I will pick out a favourite from each category during the weekend, and then set up the polls which will be open for at least a week. When that time comes, please advertise the polls so that we get a lot of votes. :)
2008-03-02 [sequeena_rae]: Yay!
2008-03-02 [Triola]: Awesome :D I love how I did well in something besides digital art for once >.> :D
2008-03-02 [Linderel]: Heehee.
2008-03-02 [Clarity.]: helen's contest JOIN MY CONTEST YOU'RE ALL WELCOME
2008-03-02 [Linderel]: One comment is quite enough, I think.
2008-03-03 [Cia_mar]: Thank you Linderel!!!! i am honored you liked mine!
2008-03-11 [RadiationNation.]: Is the WHOLE contest over o_O I've been gone for 12 days so...^_^;
2008-03-11 [Linderel]: Yes, it is. The voting started about a week ago. :)
2008-03-24 [Linderel]: Right, so, anyone else growing tired of waiting? I'll close the polls sometime during next weekend, regardless of voting statistics. So, eh... Advertise. Have the link in your moods for a day, or something.
2008-03-24 [Morphea]: I agree :)
2008-03-31 [Linderel]: Hmm. Seems like [hannes] won all three categories hands down... Well, the people have spoken! I'll be whipping up badges ASAP. If the winners want any additional prizes, just give me a nudge and let me know. ;3
That aside - those in favour of another round say AYE.
2008-03-31 [Triola]: Aye :D
2008-03-31 [hannes]: AYE! :D
2008-03-31 [sequeena_rae]: Congrats all :)
2008-03-31 [Tingis]: Congratulation
2008-03-31 [Tingis]: I was fourth xP yippie !
2008-03-31 [Cia_mar]: congrats to the winners!
2009-03-16 [Linderel]: Badges, unfortunately, never came. As you might have noticed. Would people still be interested in another round if I hosted it this coming summer?
2009-03-16 [Iske]: a second round of these contests would be fun.. (this one and the bird contest)
2009-03-16 [Skydancer]: Jitter is quite good at badges, perhaps she would be willing to make a couple?
2009-03-16 [Linderel]: Hey, nothing wrong with my badges either. I just think it's pointless to make them so late after the fact. Of course, if the winners want them, I'll whip some up.
2009-03-16 [Skydancer]: ah, well then. that makes sense.. I thought perhaps you just did not have time. :)
